The films on Fortune Green have become a fixture of West Hampstead summers over the past few years. The first one this year is Brooklyn. Based on a Colm Tóibín novel and adapted by Nick Hornby, “the film tells the story of a young Irish woman’s immigration to Brooklyn, where she quickly falls into a romance. When her past catches up with her, however, she must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within them for her.” (Wikipedia)
The gates open at 6.30pm, but the film won’t start until ~9pm when it gets dark. Bring friends, a picnic, a rug to sit on and a couple of layers! These films are usually very popular – 200-400 people turn up. The film is free, but do please give a donation so they can continue, and to support the work the Friends of Fortune Green do month in/month out on keeping the Green in great condition for everyone’s enjoyment.
