“Hamsa unite the music of Jewish Eastern Europe, Greece and Turkey in a Mediterranean melange, taking us on a journey that crosses borders while also transporting us deep into ourselves. This super-group brings elements of Klezmer, Fasil and Demotika to its original compositions – fusing grooves from both the shtetl and the souk. Band members have appeared with artists such as Boban Markovic, Frank London, The Klezmatics, Natacha Atlas, Sinead O’Connor, The Indigo Girls, Nitin Sawhney, Bustan Abraham, Zakir Hussein and Omar Farouk Tekbilek. Merlin Shepherd – clarinets Guy Schalom – drums / percussion Glenn Sharp – guitar Emmanuel Mann – bass Carol Isaacs – keyboards and accordion.
Support comes from the fantastic upcoming London-based Klezmer group Don Kipper, an ensemble of six musicians with diverse musical backgrounds. They met through a shared love of Klezmer but as band soon set about arranging repertoire from far and wide, fusing grooves and melodies from different parts of the world according to the energy of their unique sound. More recently they have been focusing on wholly original compositions.”
