The clunkily named “Area Action Group” meetings are actually just the local “keep up to date” meetings at which local councillors discuss various things happening in West Hampstead and Fortune Green. There had been some talk of splitting up West Hampstead and Fortune Green, but thankfully sanity prevailed and the two wards will continue to hold one meeting. These are usually well attended (and occasionally get quite lively). It will be interesting to see how the new councillors cope with their first one – they are (indeed, must be) apolitical affairs and as we have a split ward in Fortune Green, where Flick Rea lives on as Camden’s sole Lib Dem, there’s even less chance of any party flannel!
Topics at this meeting are expected to include Camden’s financial challenge (good luck keeping party politics out of that), the development of the Overground station, the Billy Fury Way issue, and local development more broadly.
If you’re interested in local stuff, these are a good opportunity to find out more – and of course to meet your councillors. It will be interesting to see whether all six turn up.
