Musicians in West Hampstead and Kilburn – part two — 7 Comments

  1. Postman for many years in NW6 area. Another famous singer in NW6 was Chaka Khan who lived at 17 Hilgrove Road just off the Swiss Cottage roundabout. She was living there in the early and middle 90s. In the first few years of the xfactor the contestants used to stay in 6 Cleve Rd where the likes of Leona lewis stayed when the live shows were on. Melanie Blatt from the all saints used to live (or still does so not giving number just in case) in Priory Rd. Justin Hawkins from the Darkness lived in Chudleigh Rd. Neneh Cherry lived at either 4 or 6 Milverton Road back in the early 90s too. Going back to Chaka Khan she was lovely. She gave me a hug one particular cold and wet morning. Cheered me up no end 🙂

    • Many thanks for the new info – I shall put this in as an Addition to the second part.
I hope you have looked at part one in the ‘older posts’.

      • Joe Harriott, alto, lived in a basement flat in Clifton Hill in the early 60s, just down from the Clifton Arms, same side of the road, NW8.

  2. What a splendid piece of reportage! No turn left unstoned, as it were! I was a reporter for a music weekly in the early 1970s and know how hard it is to pin down facts about musos, so well done indeed! It’s curious to note how major fame and celebrity in no way assures an enduring career in the music biz — I was flabbergasted to see that The Hotrods are still going, and indeed playing support to Status Quo.

  4. I’m searching James Kevin o’callaghan in vain. He uses to live at 120a Maygrove Road up until 2000 for sure! He is a near to complète irish musician and made a cd named ” celtic blue “. Would you know what happened to hum?
